Garth Brooks: What to know before you go

Alicia Pack

Our prayers have been answered, and it’s almost time to hear Garth Brooks callin’ Minneapolis. With record crowds pouring in from all around the cities, Minnesota and beyond, there’s a few things to know before you leave.

It’s construction season. Again. Still? Downtown has seen a slew of changes, and if you haven’t driven around there lately, you just might end up somewhere unexpected without a GPS. A safe bet is to let the Metro Transit be your friends in low places and skip the hassle of construction orange and 65,000+ other attendees looking for parking. If you decide to venture downtown, visit MNDOT for construction and U.S. Bank Stadium’s interactive parking map for pricing.  Coming in from out of town? There are multiple highways underwater around greater Minnesota. To see the latest road conditions, go to 511mn.org.

Leave the baggage. The stadium has a strictly enforced bag policy, and all bags are subject to inspection. Only clear plastic bags and baggies no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” or small clutches no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” are allowed. Blankets, binoculars without the case, baby bottles, small cameras and hand held radios are also permitted. Purses, backpacks, totes, fanny packs, umbrellas, water bottles and camera bags will need to be left in the car.

Both evenings, gates open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Brooks announced Monday night that Friday’s opener is King Calaway and Saturday he’s bringing Darius Rucker to heat up the stage.

If you don’t have your tickets yet, want to be upgraded or are ready to kick the party off early, visit one of the numerous pre parties happening around town.

If you’ve been to a U.S. Bank Stadium concert before, this Garth Brook’s show will be a completely different experience. Crews have been hard at work the last couple weeks preparing the stadium for its first concert in the round. The acoustics are adjusted, the stage is set and Garth Brooks will soon be here. Bring your boots and hats, and patience and clear bags, and you’ll walking away with a night you’ll never forget.
