Twelve years ago today Carrie Underwood was crowned the winner of American Idol season 4. Carrie took to her Instagram today to reflect on the last 12 years saying,
“12 years later and I'm still not sure how it all happened to me! 12 years ago today, my dreams came true and life has been a dream ever since! I am beyond blessed and so thankful! #AmericanIdol #TBT”
After winning the top prize Carrie released her very first single, "Inside Your Heaven", on June 14, 2005. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her debut album, Some Hearts, was released in 2005. With the huge crossover success of the singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", it became the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history, the fastest-selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history and the best-selling country album of the last 14 years. Underwood won three Grammy Awards for the album, including Best New Artist.
Underwood has been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. She has earned numerous accolades, including 7 Grammy Awards, 10 Billboard Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards and the accolades keep coming!
What's next for Carrie? The sky is the limit. After announcing she was taking a much needed break for family time. It was announced in March Carrie signed with Universal Music Group's Capitol Records Nashville after being with Arista Nashville for nearly twelve years. You can catch Carrie performing her duet “The Fighter” with Keith Urban Wednesday June 7th at the CMT music awards. The pair is up for collaborative video of the year. Carrie is also nominated for video of the year for her single “Church Bells”.
